Empanadas United, the Philadelphia-born empanada maker was recently acquired by Virtual Dining Concepts and is set to go national, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
As part of its new national expansion, Empanadas United is also expected to triple in both revenue and its geographic footprint.
Empanadas United was founded by Victor Tejada in 2023. The company offers several versions of the pastry, ranging from pizza empanadas, buffalo chicken, and ham and cheese.
The company currently operates in two Philadelphia locations — East Falls and Brewerytown, respectively — in addition to 160 restaurant partners across Pennsylvania, four other states, and Washington, D.C.
After acquiring Empanadas United, Virtual Dining Concepts signed agreements with several of its existing restaurant partners to expand the company into 450 additional locations across 48 U.S. states.
According to Virtual Dining Concepts’ chief operating officer Adam Robin, the expansions are expected to be completed by the end of May. He added that the brand will likely be in over 500 partner locations by the end of quarter two and puts it on pace to exceed its revenue by 200 percent from last year.
The expansion efforts go hand-in-hand with Tejada’s entrepreneurial mission “to bring opportunity to the independent people working with us,” he said.
