While Phoenixville Mayor Peter Urscheler often touts the town’s commercial and historical attractions, he is especially proud of its welcoming culture, writes Asha Prihar for Spotlight PA.
The borough which is home to around 20,000 people is a place where “every single person” is “safe, loved, and celebrated,” he said.
Once rooted in industry, Phoenixville has evolved to become a thriving hub for breweries and entertainment. The town is home to a variety of festivals, celebrating everything from dogwood trees to the cult classic The Blob. Its growing appeal has been attracting many new residents, with the population increasing by a third since the start of the 21st century.
A Florida native, Urscheler moved to Phoenixville in 2006 for work and started getting more involved with the community in 2014. He became the town’s mayor three years later.
“I became mayor at a really interesting time, where we were kind of at the tipping point and starting to really become well known,” said Urscheler. “And I’ve been very fortunate to be here through that process.”
Since then, the borough has welcomed many new businesses, restaurants, and bars, as well as a lot of new housing.
