Olin Chamberlain Jr. has had basketball in his blood before he was even born, so naturally he’d find a way into the sport, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
He is the grandnephew of Wilt Chamberlain, the Philadelphia 76ers legend.
The Chamberlain family has deep roots in Philadelphia, as Wilt was born and raised in the city, becoming a basketball star at Overbrook High School.
Despite the obvious connection, Olin Jr.’s parents made sure he understood that basketball isn’t everything.
However, he still ended up in the sport.
Despite carrying a name that holds weight across the city and having to deal with criticism of opposing student sections telling him, “You’re not Wilt Chamberlain, you’ll never be as good as him.”
Determined to carve his own path, Olin Jr. never let that get to him.
Now a senior at St. Joseph’s Prep, he has built an impressive high school career en route to becoming a college prospect.
The 6’1″ guard isn’t just making his mark on the basketball court, however.
He is also vice president of the student body and on the prom committee.
Weeks away from announcing where he’s getting for college, he wants to take advantage of all the opportunities basketball affords him.
