If you’re looking to upgrade your culinary skills, Philadelphia offers several cooking classes, whether you prefer online options or in-person instruction, writes Ashlee Woods for Billy Penn at WHYY.
Old City Kitchen offers a variety of classes, covering everything from Italian to Indian and Asian cuisine, for over three years. Classes are available almost every day, with a new schedule released every two weeks. Each class lasts two hours, typically beginning with an appetizer and at least two more courses that participants can enjoy once they’re finished.
1984Cakes is ideal for those looking to begin their cooking journey and get comfortable in the kitchen. The dessert company offers monthly cookie-decorating classes inside BLDG39 at The Arsenal for all ages. Once guests check in, they enjoy a buffet of sweets and finger foods before classes begins. 1984Cakes owner Natalie Rosa then explains how the equipment works before the three-hour decorating and packaging session begins.
Families CCan Cook is a cooking class series for individuals with disabilities and their families. The class is offered in six-week installments via Zoom. Participants join lead chef Mary Matcovich to prepare an entrée, side dish, and dessert — all in under an hour. Ingredient and equipment lists are emailed before each class begins.
