Wawa has started its expansion into the Midwest with a scheduled opening of its first Ohio Wawa store April 16, writes Rachel Gignac for CSP.
The date coincides with the founding of Wawa’s first store in Folsom, which opened April 16, 1964.
The anniversary of that date, known as Wawa Day, will be celebrated at Wawa’s 1,100 locations.
The new store will be located in Butler County at 7198 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township.
It’s the first of eight to 10 Wawa stores set to open in Ohio by the end of the year. Ohio will be the 10th state that Wawa has gone into under its expansion program.
In the next five to eight years, Wawa will build and open six to 10 stores per year in Ohio, up to 60 stores in the state.
The Delaware County-based convenience store chain is investing more than $7.5 million and hiring about 140 contractors and local partners to make it happen.
Each store will have about 35 associates, with 2,100 new long-term jobs created.
“This historic milestone kicks off our ongoing growth and expansion in Ohio as we continue to build new stores and create new jobs,” said Wawa President Brian Schaller.
