Philadelphia is known for many things — from its history as the birthplace of America to its many landmarks.
However, another distinction Philadelphia holds is that of one of the top food destinations in the nation.
With thousands and thousands of restaurants to choose from, it can be hard to sort out where to go.
However, a Philadelphia native with a passion for food has taken it upon himself to help locals and visitors choose the ones best suited for them with a new food map.
“Explore the best food spots in Philadelphia with our interactive food map. Find top-rated halal trucks, hidden gems, and neighborhood favorites in one click,” the food map reads.
After getting laid off from a corporate job, he found a silver lining in gaining more time to focus on food research and exploring the true insight behind local recommended food spots.
But how did the Philadelphia native, who can be found on Instagram as djour.philly, compile the 1,000-plus restaurant food map?
“It’s a mix of personal anecdotes, public opinion through forums such as Reddit or other publications that are trustworthy, people that I know who have good, strong opinions about stuff and I have their confidence in a place,” he said during an interview with PHILADELPHIA.Today. “And other associates or colleagues, acquintances that I know in the industry that also have colorful things to say.”

In contrast to rankings you’ll likely find on review sites like Yelp, Portnoy, or Beli, his rankings go beyond the typical five-star rating.
He instead uses a “djour score,” which is more simplified and ranks the restaurants from good to better to best.
“At the end of the day, what I care about most is just, is the food good and is this a place that I would recommend?” djour.philly said.
The food map can be navigated through various categories, such as neighborhood, food type, culture, cost and party size, and more.
“Everything is good,” said djour.philly. “My whole purpose is not to promote negativity in a place. It’s just to showcase the places that are truly worth it.”
Looking for a spot for the best pizza, burgers, or tacos? The food map has you covered. Want to find the best spots for Italian, French, or Mediterranean cuisine? The food map is your go-to. Are you a vegan looking for the top eateries to fulfill your dietary preferences? The food map can be useful.
The food map also features a section for new and upcoming restaurants to the city.
For djour.philly, this is just the beginning as he plans to continue unveiling the Philadelphia dining scenes’ most talked-about restaurants and its hidden gems.
