Kennett Square Mushroom Festival Named One Of USA Today’s Best Food Festivals

Kennett Square is the Mushroom Capital of the World, and Phillips Mushroom Farms is committed to growing the industry.

The Kennett Square Mushroom Festival has been named one of the 10 Best Specialty Food Festivals by USA Today, writes Dan Stamm for NBC10 Philadelphia.

The Mushroom Festival, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary this September, was ranked sixth on USA Today’s list of the ten best specialty food festivals across the country.

A Chester County community staple, the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival began to highlight mushroom farmers across Kennett Square. It has since turned into an annual celebration of the region’s history of mushroom farming complete with music, cooking demonstrations, mushroom shopping, and food vendors.

USA Today described the festival’s unique food options as a main attraction each year, naming mushroom risotto, stuffed mushrooms, and mushroom soup as must-try dishes.

10 Best Lists are nominated and voted on by the magazine’s readers and editors. The Mushroom Festival’s national recognition comes from both its historical significance and community engagement, as the festival has donated over $1.4 million to local non-profits over the course of its forty years in operation.

“What makes the designation even more special is that we were voted by the public, ” said Mushroom Festival president Gina Puoci.
