Empire State Building Shines Bright With Eagles Colors, Causing Stir Among New Yorkers

The Empire State Building lit up with Philadelphia Eagles green after the team punched their ticket to their 2nd Super Bowl in three years. Many New Yorkers were not happy.

After the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 55-23 to make their way to their second Super Bowl in three years, the Empire State Building was lit up in green, writes Jonathan Limehouse for USA Today.

This also marks the second time the iconic New York landmark lit up in Eagles’ green.

While it was a sight to see for Philadelphians and Eagles fans alike, this didn’t sit too well with New Yorkers, as well as Giants and Jets fans.

Comedian and New York City native Michael Rapaport took to X to share his feelings about the Empire State Building’s decision.

“Why is the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING lighting up to Celebrate the #PhiladelphiaEagles ? What has the world come to?” he wrote.

While the New York area has multiple home teams to cheer for, they haven’t seen much recent success.

The Giants haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 2012, while the Jets haven’t since 1969.

Meawhile, running back Saquon Barkley, who played his first six seasons with the Giants, has been a key cog in the Eagles’ success this season.

The Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are set for their Super Bowl rematch on Sunday, February 9.
