On October 29, Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley celebrated the opening of its new multi-sport turf field and refurbished community gym in Worcester for kids with disabilities, writes The Reporter.
Local officials attended the ribbon-cutting event, including PA Senator Maria Collett and PA Representative Matt Bradford.
The new turf field was funded by a Pennsylvania grant advocated by Collett and Bradford. It is regulation-sized and available for soccer, rugby, lacrosse, and flag football. It will serve both Variety program participants and local athletic organizations. Variety CEO Dominique Bernardo described it as a “field of dreams” where children and young adults with disabilities can play without judgment.
In addition, the community gym has been transformed into a versatile space with two gyms, new flooring, and modernized facilities. This gym supports Variety’s mission by providing a safe recreational space. The ability to hose community events will generate revenue for the organization’s programs.
Both projects are part of Variety’s ongoing capital campaign, “A Whole New World.” The campaign aims to create facilities that address the evolving needs of people with disabilities. It also includes opening a new multipurpose cabin earlier this year, marking Variety’s first new construction in over four decades.
