University of Pennsylvania Student Named 2025 Rhodes Scholar

Om Gandhi, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, is one of the newest awardees of the Rhodes Scholarship.

Om Gandhi, a fourth-year student at the University of Pennsylvania, has been awarded a 2025 Rhodes Scholarship, writes Louisa Shepard for Penn Today.

He is one of about 100 Rhodes Scholars who will be selected across more than 70 countries this year.

As a Rhodes Scholar, Gandhi will be pursuing graduate studies at the University of Oxford in England.

Gandhi is currently pursuing a master’s degree in bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Gandhi is majoring in neuroscience and health and societies with a public health concentration in the College of Arts and Sciences and minors in chemistry and health care management.

He also conducts research on developing new cancer therapies and diagnostic approaches at Penn’s Center for Cellular Immunotherapies.

He is also quite active on campus as the director of Locust Bioventures, president of the Wharton Undergraduate Healthcare Club, vice president of the Penn Undergraduate Biotech Society, and editor-in-chief of the Penn Healthcare Review.

Upon his arrival to Oxford, Gandhi plans to pursue a DPhil in pediatrics with a focus on oncology. Beyond that, his goal is to attend medical school and practice medicine as a physician-scientist.

The Rhodes Scholarship has been established since 1902 and is one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world.
