Temple University Safety Officer’s Artwork Now on Display in Washington D.C. Exhibit

Temple University's Bryan Cottrell has his drawing "Honor" as one of 50 works of art featured on display at the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum's new exhibit.

Temple University public safety officer Bryan Cottrell has his artwork on display at the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum in Washington, D.C., writes Jennifer Lee for FOX 29.

“I’m really excited and quite frankly I was surprised and shocked that I was selected,” said Cottrell.

His pencil drawing is titled, “Honor,” and is one of 50 works of art that have been chosen for display in the “Officers as Artists: The Creative Expression of Those Who Serve” exhibit.

According to Cottrell, his drawing is based off a photo he took during a college photography class.

“It’s a picture of a tattered flag, leaning against a tombstone in an old cemetery and it’s very symbolic for me,” Cottrell said. “I really have a sense of patriotism with my father being a veteran, as well as being in law-enforcement and being very, very active in the first responder community.”

For Cottrell, the drawing honors the sacrifices of military, law enforcement, and all first responders.

The museum received over 170 entries, according to the Museum’s deputy director Lauren Sydney.

The exhibit celebrates the creative expression and transformative power of art by law enforcement officers and explains how art has been instrumental for these artists to navigate such a complex profession.
