The Gas Lamp Hotel, Philadelphia’s newest boutique accommodation, has recently opened its doors in a historic building in Old City, writes Cherise Lynch for NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The hotel, which was conceptualized and built by a team of five local investors, including Wendell Holland, a Philadelphia-based furniture designer. He is the founder of Beve Unlimited, and winner of the 36th season of “Survivor,” and as a result it offers historic charm combined with modern luxury.
The Gas Lamp Hotel combines a virtual concierge service and all the amenities expected from a high-end hotel. It overlooks Elfreth’s Alley, the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in the country. The building where the hotel sits, was constructed in 1845 and had been home to The Austrian Gas Lamp Company until 2019.
The owners combined the history of the building with the fact that Philadelphia is the hometown of the first private residence in the nation to be illuminated by gas flame to come up with “The Gas Lamp Hotel” name.
The hotel features four studio apartment-style guest rooms along with a three-bedroom suite. Each room is named after a pioneer in lighting innovation and technology, such as “Latimer,” and “Adams.”
