Chilling Thrills Await at These Haunted Attractions in Philadelphia

With spooky season now firmly upon us, Philadelphia has a few haunted attractions that are sure to provide visitors some chilling thrills.

We are officially in the spooky season, and these local haunted attractions are perfect for those brave enough to embrace the thrills of Halloween, writes Kalena Thomhave for The Keystone.

Eastern State Penitentiary, the infamous prison of yesteryear that once housed the famous gangster Al Capone, is open as a museum throughout the year. However, at night during the Halloween season, it transforms into the famous Halloween Nights that offer five haunted houses, live performances, and much more. For those feeling especially daring, the attraction offers glow necklaces to opt into that risk being grabbed by actors or even pulled into secret passageways.

Lincoln Mill Haunted House is the newest among the scary attractions. It opened last year, after Hurricane Ida flooded an old textile mill in Manayunk in 2021. The owners decided not to reopen the previous restaurant but concocted a legend — a dark secret about a chamber in the building’s basement — to turn the building into a haunted house.

You can also learn about the city’s spooky history on a ghost tour with Grim Philly Twilight Tours. The tours are led by historians and focus on Philadelphia’s historic district. In addition to true stories, you will get to hear about dark but entertaining legends.
