Former West Chester University President Among Picks for Position of Interim Chancellor of PASSHE

Recently retired president of West Chester University Christopher M. Fiorentino is likely to become interim chancellor of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In a message to students, faculty, and staff last week, Cindy Shapira, chair of the system’s board of governors, said she is planning to recommend Fiorentino to the board at its October meeting. Fiorentino retired in June after leading West Chester for seven and a half years.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, and I am so pleased he has agreed to serve in this capacity,” said Shapira.

However, she noted that Fiorentino does not intend to apply for the permanent position.

Fiorentino has spent his whole four-decade-long career at West Chester. He started as an assistant professor of economics in 1983 and was later dean of the College of Business and Public Affairs, now known as the College of Business and Public Management, for two decades.

He moved to the position of vice president for external operations and was interim president for nine months in 2016 before getting the full job.
