Horsham Raises Awareness for National Suicide Prevention Month

Horsham Township came together to raise awareness during National Suicide Prevention Week, reports Dino Ciliberti for the Patch. The community wanted to provide hope to those struggling. The township building adorned its front lawn with purple pinwheels, signaling their efforts to prevent suicide and promote mental health awareness.

Township Manager Bill Walker shared that these pinwheels are part of the community’s effort to honor lives lost. So far this year, eight township residents have died by suicide. Six took their own lives in 2023. The township also honored the memory of the 100 lives lost across all of Montgomery County this year.

As part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Horsham Township encourages everyone to break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges.

“Reach out, check in on your loved ones, and know that support is always available,” officials said. “Let’s spread love, understanding, and strength. Together we can save lives.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide, help is availble. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org. 988 is available day and night, is free and confidential.
