Sahay AI, a Pennovation Works robotic startup founded by Tejas Agarwal, is looking to minimize risks on railroads using its robotic device, LARR-E, writes Ryan Mulligan for PHL Inno.
Agarwal decided to turn his love for robotics into a startup that aims to make railroads safer after a train derailment last year in East Palestine, Ohio, and another killed nearly 300 people in India.
Just months after he founded his business, he won first prize in the Pennovation Works accelerator competition.
LARR-E attaches to the back of a train car and captures data and information on the infrastructure of the train tracks using its sensors. According to Agarwal, it can take the place of visual railway inspections and make the process more efficient than using the human eye as it uses technology to capture data that is more accurate and detailed and aggregates it in real time on a web dashboard.
Agarwal believes his technology can “significantly reduce the time and cost for these people, [while] also increasing the safety.”
Winning the pitch competition at Pennovation Works netted Sahay AI a $7,000 cash prize and a six-month membership to use the Grays Ferry innovation hub’s space to develop his product, along with marketing support.
