The Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown will host a PGA event next spring, writes Erik Spangburg and Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
North Carolina-based Truist Financial Corp. will replace Wells Fargo as the main sponsor of the event in 2024. The bank has a strong presence in the Philadelphia area and ranks No. 9 in yearly deposits among banks in the region. Truist cites the town’s community among the reasons for relocating the tour.
Philadelphia is “a sports town … dying for some golf,” said Bill Rogers, CEO of Truist.
The Philadelphia Cricket Club will host the newly named Truist Championship from May 8 to May 11, 2025, before the event moves to Quail’s Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, for six years starting in 2026. That same year, the Cricket Club will cohost the US Amateur Championship, along with the Merion Golf Club.
The Philadelphia Cricket Club, designed by A. W. Tillinghast, opened in 1922.
The 7-year sponsorship deal is reportedly worth over $200 million and marks Truist’s largest sports marketing investment, surpassing the naming rights for the Atlanta Braves ballpark.
