Why East Falls in Northwest Philadelphia is a Neighborhood Worth Living

East Falls is a unique neighborhood to live in for a variety of reasons.

Philadelphia is comprised of a number of neighborhoods, each with something unique.

East Falls is just one of many, but it’s special because you’ll feel like royalty as it’s the only Philly neighborhood where a princess grew up, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

Actress Grace Kelly, who later went on to become the Princess of Monaco, grew up in that very neighborhood.

Her brother Olympic rowing champion John B. “Jack” Kelly Jr. and former Philadelphia mayor and Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell are some other high-profile natives of East Falls.

The neighborhood earned its name through its proximity to the Falls of Schuylkill. While you can no longer see the falls because of the construction of the Fairmount Water Works and dam that submerged them in 1812, the name lives on.

East Falls is also filled with great restaurants, salons, cafes, shops, stores, and breweries.

“It’s an urban suburban oasis within Philadelphia,” Heather Petrone-Shook of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach Realtors said of the neighborhood.

The houses in the neighborhood are also vast.

You can find brick houses close to the river and also stone houses as you climb the hill. East Falls also features some of the finest mid-century modern houses in the city.
