The Hangry Bear Creamery in Kennett Square allows customers to make their very own ice cream flavor, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The starting mixture contains milk, sugar, heavy cream, skim milk solids, syrup solids, emulsifiers and stabilizers. Then, customers can add dozens of different ingredients to make thousands of combinations.
Some of the ingredients are chocolate-covered graham crackers, cinnamon toast crunch pieces, fruit loops, spiced apples, and cookie butter, just to name a few.
Groups of friends, couples, and parents and their children can enjoy the one-of-a-kind experience of making their unique flavor. Hangry Bear hosts birthday parties, showers, date nights, book clubs, and mom’s groups.
After the two hours in the ice cream shop, customers go home with a couple of pints of ice cream.
Owner Melinda Shaw opened the 55-seat creamery on Dec. 6. She worked at the University of Delaware Creamery for 13 years where she taught a 3-credit class, The Science of Ice Cream, for undergrads.
Hangry Bear Creamery also offers Funky Monkey, with banana ice cream and chocolate covered waffle graham crackers and Nutella; Lavender Lemon Cheesecake; Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup; and Bro’s Cookie Dough, with salted caramel ice cream, brownies and cookie dough pieces.
