Two Private Gardens in Bryn Mawr and Chestnut Hill Among Most Beautiful in Region

While the Philadelphia region is home to one of the largest gardens nationwide with its bounty of lively public plots, some of the most beautiful landscapes belong to private homeowners, writes Earl Hopkins for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In fact, Bryn Mawr and Chestnut Hill have two of the five most beautiful private gardens in the area.

Lesli Miller and Richard Worley, owners of the French country-style property in Bryn Mawr, had very little garden space to work with when they first acquired their home. They also had little knowledge on how to shape the land surrounding their home but they were willing to learn.

With the help of horticulture professionals, they installed hardscape, perennial beds, and a pond. Since then, they have expanded their garden with many new plants, including Japanese maples and dwarf conifers.

In Chestnut Hill, a nearly 50-year-old garden developed by Richard and Alice Farley is filled with lush blooms sown over decades. They have been reshaping and tending their grounds since 1978.

Today, the garden is a mix of various trees, shrubs, and shade-tolerant plants, alongside several climate change-resistant Asian and native species.
