Norristown residents are frustrated with an intersection that has been the site of many accidents – some with fatalities – in recent years, writes Alex George for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
People living near the problematic intersection constantly have to deal with drivers who fly past the posted 25 mph zone, often causing crashes and costly damage.
“This intersection is very dangerous,” said Tiffany Arthur, whose brother owns a restaurant on the corner of DeKalb and East Brown streets. “I have seen their establishment get destroyed at least four times. A car went completely into his establishment last year.”
A few months ago, a fatal accident took the life of a 37-year-old woman from Ambler.
Residents are asking for more effort to be put into slowing traffic on that stretch of DeKalb Road, or State Road 202.
“They should have a light at every intersection or speed bumps,” said Arthur. “Something.”
Dawn Gallo, who lives near the intersection, witnessed cars crash into her yard. She has reached out to PennDOT and the city on multiple occasions hoping they will find a solution before more people are harmed.
“I just want something to be done for everyone’s safety,” said Gallo.
