“True Biz” By Sara Nović is the Free Library’s One Book, One Philadelphia 2024 Selection

Sara Novic is the author who wrote the "True Biz," a 2022 Best-seller and the selection for the Free Library of Philadelphia's 2024 One Book, One Philadelphia program.

The Free Library of Philadelphia has announced that “True Biz” by Sara Nović has been chosen as the 2024 One Book, One Philadelphia featured reading selection.

The story is about communication across radically different experiences, and involves three characters at the River Valley School for the Deaf. They are Charlie, a new transfer student; Austin, the school’s golden boy; and February, the school’s Headmistress and a child of deaf parents.

Together, the three students try to find their footing during a new school year, while navigating life changes and an impending threat to their school that may change them forever.

One Book, One Philadelphia, an acclaimed literacy and civic dialogue initiative, encourages the greater Philadelphia region to come together through reading and conversation.

“One Book, One Philadelphia continues to create a shared reading experience that promotes learning from different cultures and perspectives, which helps us to better understand not only the world around us but also each other,” said Kelly Richards, president and director of the Free Library of Philadelphia. “This year’s selection, True Biz, is no different. With its emphasis on education and belonging, it is as enlightening as it is heartwarming.”
