When Tierra Whack released her debut album, Whack World, in 2018, she made quite the splash in the music industry. Since then, fans have waited patiently for her next album.
The wait is now over as Whack released her newest album, World Wide Whack, on March 15, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
The North Philadelphia native’s debut album wasn’t your standard hip-hop album, as the 15 tracks came in at a total of less than 15 minutes, and it was also a visual album.
NPR ranked Whack World as the 10th-best album of the year, while Okayplayer placed it second, and Billboard had it as the 19th best album of the year.
Similar to the first, Whack’s newest album will also have plenty of visuals to go along with it.
Her label, Interscope, describes Whack’s character on World Wide Whack as an “alter ego both untouchable and vulnerable, superhuman and painfully human.”
The label also said her character is sort of a composite of disco diva Donna Summer, the late fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, and the 17th-century lovesick clown known as Pierrot.
When asked why the 6-year gap between album releases, Tierra Whack said, “I just wasn’t making stuff that I wasn’t proud of.”
