Actress and West Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson will be the 2024 recipient of the Lew Klein Excellence in Media Award later this year, writes Amanda Stankiewicz for Klein College.
The award is presented annually by Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication and was inspired by broadcast pioneer Lew Klein.
Each year, it honors a media luminary whose work inspires students.
Brunson fits the bill as a writer, producer, and actress who recently made history as the first Black woman in over 40 years to win an Emmy Award for Best Comedic Actress.
Her work is known for its creativity, humor, and cultural resonance.
Those elements have made her a significant figure in the entertainment industry in recent years.
“She is not only a talented entertainer and media figure, she is a powerful advocate for public education,” Klein College Dean David Boardman said of Brunson.
Brunson is a former student at Klein College, getting her start on the university’s first student-produced comedy-variety show, Temple Smash, before going to Southern California.
She will receive the award during the Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 7.
