Drexel University is one of the newest naming rights deals SEPTA has signed with and more could be in the near future.

As part of a new naming rights agreement with Drexel University, 30th Street Station will soon be renamed “Drexel Station at 30th Street,” writes Chris Compendio for Phillyvoice.

With this agreement, one of Philadelphia’s most heavily trafficked SEPTA hubs will have the name of one of Philadelphia’s largest universities.

30th Street Station is part of SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line and includes both bus and trolley services.

SEPTA board chairman Pasquale T. Deon Sr., said that naming rights agreements like these are “great opportunities for SEPTA to enhance service” and “generate much-needed new revenues.”

Since 2020, the station has been undergoing renovations at the station to add new elevators, upgrade lighting, and update its signage.

The renovations and new name will also differentiate the station further from William H. Gray III 30th Street Station across the street.

“As new educational, research and business development opportunities continue to grow in West Philadelphia, it is fitting for Drexel to welcome everyone to University City,” Drexel President John Fry said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new station is expected in early 2024.
