Indego, the bike share program, is planning to add 1,000 new docking points, 45-50 stations, and 650 electric bikes to its system next year, writes Kristin Hunt for Phillyvoice.
In 2024, Indego will also focus its efforts on increasing its presence in various areas of Philadelphia.
Namely, expect to see more of Indego in Mill Creek, Parkside, Wynnefield, and Overbrook in West Philadelphia; Kingsessing in Southwest Philadelphia; Kensington and Port Richmond in the River Wards; and the upper section of East Falls in Northwest Philadelphia.
If all goes as planned, Indego says it will end 2024 with nearly 3,000 bikes and more than 5,750 docks.
These efforts are part of Indego’s five-year initiative to expand the bike share program to underserved areas of the city.
Launched in 2015, the program has expanded from its initial concentration in Center City to other parts of the region, including the north and west.
Earlier this year, the first stations in Allegheny West were completed along with added docks in the Whitman neighborhood in South Philadelphia and at the Columbia YMCA near Temple University.
Efforts for the newest expansion efforts are scheduled to begin in mid-January.
