‘Go Birds,’ This Artemis II Astronaut is a Proud Philly Sports Fan

Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch, a Michigan native, often spends her time at the International Space Station watching games.

Astronaut Christina Koch, who has been on the recent Artemis II mission to the moon, is a major Philadelphia sports fan and shows off her fandom regardless of how far from Earth she is, writes Ariel Simpson for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Over the years, Koch has posted pictures of herself watching Philadelphia Eagles games from the International Space Station.

One particular picture shows Koch sporting an Eagles hat with a Philadelphia Phillies jersey. Another photo shows her with her arms raised atop the iconic Rocky Steps. There’s also a photo of a Joel Embiid jersey.

A Michigan native, Koch began her career as an astronaut in 2013, and spent a total of 328 consecutive days in space in 2019. She participated in the first all-female space walks and is the first woman astronaut to make a trip around the moon.

While spending so many days hundreds of miles above the Earth, Koch often used her free time to watch Philly sports games.

She is now set to return to Earth just in time to watch the final potential playoff pushes by the Sixers and Flyers, as well as the majority of the Phillies season.
