A group of Villanova University students is proving that academic success and community service can go hand in hand, writes Leslie Small for Main Line Now.
Four students from Villanova University’s College of Engineering are volunteering with the Bryn Mawr Fire Company while pursuing demanding academic programs.
Colton Musselman, Anne Earp, John Burns, and Dominic Cipriani are all engineering majors who respond to emergency calls as volunteer firefighters. Musselman is studying mechanical engineering, while Earp, Burns, and Cipriani are civil engineering majors.
Joining them in service is Villanova alumna Kylee Hall, a 2024 graduate in chemical engineering who made history as the first female line officer in the Bryn Mawr Fire Company.
The students recently demonstrated their ability to juggle responsibilities during a February snowstorm. While on standby at the firehouse, they were spotted studying together in the meeting room while waiting to respond to calls.
Their commitment to service has already produced results. Firefighter Anne Earp completed the first phase of the company’s in-house training and earned her National Firefighter I certification just five months after joining the department.
The effort highlights how local volunteers continue to play a vital role in keeping Montgomery County communities safe.
