With the confirmation of season two of the regional TV show Task, created by Berwyn resident Brad Ingelsby, a new actor has been added to the cast: Mahershala Ali, writes Rosa Cartagena for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to sources at Deadline, the Oscar-winning performer is set to appear as rival to Mark Ruffalo’s character, FBI agent Tom Brandis. Ali is likely set to play veteran Philadelphia DEA agent Eddie Barnes, who clashes with Brandis’ task team.
[Spoiler Alert] Season 1 follows Brandis and his task force as they investigate robberies at drug houses in Delaware and Montgomery Counties. Meanwhile, actor Tom Pelphrey’s Robbie Prendergrast is on the other side of the law, and the season concludes with his death and a corrupt cop in the midst.
Despite HBO claiming it was a limited series, Inglesby and Ruffalo both felt that there was still more to explore with the character, thus paving way for Ali to come into the conflict—noted as a top choice among the candidates.
Filming Task in the Philadelphia region brought in $230 million to the area and produced hundreds of jobs. Now for its return, the Pennsylvania Film Office granted a $49.8 million tax credit, expecting more than 3,000 jobs and an investment of around $194.1 million to the state’s economy.
