Perkasie’s Final Undeveloped Land May Become Home to Recycling Center

After a push back against plans for apartments, Perkasie's final undeveloped tract of land may instead be developed as a recycling center.

After borough leaders and residents pushed back against plans for luxury apartments, the final undeveloped tract of land in Perkasie may instead be developed as a recycling center, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.

On Feb. 25, Perkasie Place submitted a sketch plan to the borough planning commission seeking initial feedback on a proposed recycling center adjacent to Mavis Tire on Constitution Avenue.

Under the proposal, the current parcel would be subdivided into a 7.9-acre lot that would feature an 18,000-square-foot recycling center, a contractor building, an attached 3,800-square-foot office space, and an outdoor storage area for trailers, equipment, and related materials.

The recycling center, which is permitted use under the current zoning, would focus on processing, storing, and separating construction materials, including metal, concrete, wood, masonry, and more. No hazardous waste would be handled at the site.

The new proposal marks a dramatic shift from the developers’ prior vision for the site.

Plans submitted last fall called for five buildings with 75 luxury apartments, but that project was abandoned after facing firm resistance from borough officials and residents.
