After nearly seven decades, the family-owned Kelly’s Seafood, known for its dense menu and early-bird specials, is set to close as the owners of the Northeast Philadelphia staple prepare for retirement, writes Molly McVety for PhillyVoice.
The building at 9362 Old Bustleton Avenue has been listed for sale, with the eatery expected to remain open until a deal is finalized.
“We have been honored to serve you and your families,” the Kelly family wrote on social media. “… You stuck by us through some very challenging times, and we thank you for that.”
The owners said there is still time to redeem leftover gift certificates, and they will also reimburse any purchased within the last year.
The restaurant first opened in 1958, with its signature nautical interior design and Cajun-inspired menu remaining largely unchanged over the decades. Its current owners, twin brothers Brett and Brian Kelly, represent the fourth generation of the family to run the restaurant, joined by their sister, who manages administrative and hosting duties. Their nephew also works in the kitchen.
The family listed the property for $2.2 million, including the liquor license, equipment, furnishings, and an apartment unit.
