Philip Korshak, founder of Korshak Bagels, plans to return to South Philadelphia this spring with a bodega-style store, Korshak Picnic Provisions, offering hot dogs and picnic supplies, writes Molly McVety for PhillyVoice.
For two years, Korshak Bagels burned bright thanks to its signature South Philly bagel, before Korshak closed the shop in September 2023, citing the operation as financially and personally unsustainable.
Earlier this month, Korshak posted on his Instagram, that announced his new venture.
“Hi South Philly. Have I told you about how I love a picnic? And how I love hotdogs?” reads the post’s caption.
He plans to open a bodega-style store at 13th and Reed streets, inspired by his years living in Brooklyn. The shop will stock everything for a park picnic, including biscuits, cinnamon buns, cookies, hummus, and other treats. Hot dogs are already set to become the star offering.
“Hot dogs are silly and fun, and more importantly, it’s impossible to put them on a pedestal,” said Korshak. “I thought this space needs a really lovely bodega with hot dogs.”
The shop is expected to open in May 2026.
