New Analysis Reveals How ChatGPT Views Philadelphia, Its People

Researchers at the University of Oxford and the University of Kentucky worked on a new project to see how ChatGPT views major U.S. cities.

A new analysis has unveiled what artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT thinks of Philadelphians, and its response is quite interesting, writes Emily Bloch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to the bot, Philadelphians are annoying, unfriendly, and stressed. However, the city also has the best sandwiches.

The new analysis is the result of a new project by researchers at the University of Oxford and the University of Kentucky.

The researchers would ask the chatbot a multitude of systemic questions about individuals who live in two different states. This process would then continue until ChatGPT would have thoughts on every state and each major city.

Matthew Zook, one of the study’s authors from the University of Kentucky, found that AI bots are trained and have learned human biases, despite being programmed to refuse to admit that bias.

“The more prevalent or dominant a stereotype is, the more likely it is to show up in the model,” said Zook.

In addition to being annoying, unfriendly, stressed out, and having good sandwiches, ChatGPT also ranks Philadelphia among the highest in the nation when it comes to pizza.

Beyond the sandwiches, Philadelphia also ranked No. 1 in its sense of national pride, craftsmanship, and “iconic national symbols.”
