Since being installed as the new president at Temple University, John Fry has been detailing his vision for the future of the institution.
Last week, Temple unveiled its new, long-term strategic plan for the future, writes Susan Snyder for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The plan, called “Forward with Purpose” has been approved with the target of Temple developing into “one of the nation’s leading public urban research universities” by 2034. That year will also mark Temple’s 150th anniversary.
To get to its overall goal, Temple has put together a $1.5 billion fundraising campaign.
The university has a number of real estate projects underway as part of its other goal to build an innovation corridor along Broad Street. President Fry said Temple’s plan to revitalize Terra Hall of the now-shuttered University of the Arts will be a “signature achievement” for the university when it celebrates its opening in 2027.
In addition, Temple has plans to construct a new mixed-use residential building that would include student housing, academic learning spaces, recreational facilities, and retail.
As part of a priority to add more green space to the campus, Temple will be demolishing Beury Hall to create a new quad.
