The Boozy Mutt, the dog friendly bar and social club in Fairmount, has permanently closed its doors after just over two years in business, writes Kristin Hunt for PhillyVoice.
The business’ last day of operation was Saturday, January 3.
Its owners, Allison and Sam Mattiola, have not cited an official reason for the closure.
The Mattiolas opened the bar in December 2023 as a indoor-outdoor venue that included an 140-seat restaurant, off-leash dog park, retail area, and wash room for furry friends. Pet owners would have access to all services through a membership, while those without pet dogs were also welcome.
“What began as a dream became something truly special because of our community – our guests, our team, & all the good mutts who walked through our doors,” the owners wrote in an Instagram post.
The idea for The Boozy Mutt started while the couple was quarantining in their Olde Kensington home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They often attended happy hours in a field nearby their home with friends and their new dog, and wanted to recreate that experience on a larger scale.
