As the New Year begins, the future of Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem remains uncertain, with most of the shops closed and spaces left unoccupied, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The property, which spans 91 acres and 1 million square feet of retail space, was sold to developers over a year ago for $27.5 million.
Now, most of the mall is empty, down to less than two dozen businesses.
The food court is currently only occupied by one restaurant, and there are only a few kiosks running.
Boscov’s and Barnes & Noble anchor the mall at either end, still offering their goods to visiting customers.
Classic mall staples like Bath & Body Works, Hot Topic, and Hallmark are still open as well.
The Shoe Carnival, one of the larger retailers, is set to close its doors on Jan. 11.
Nontraditional businesses, like the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute beauty school, The Bridge Church, and a pop-up wedding venue, have filled some vacant spaces.
Paramount Realty, the property’s developers, has yet to provide updates on their plans for the mall. Bensalem Township officials haven’t received any submissions for the space from Paramount.
The developers previously announced their plans to demolish 55 percent of the mall’s structure, according to Bensalem’s Economic Development Corp’s executive director, Robert Norkus.
