Former CBS Philadelphia Anchor Enters Guinness Book of World Records for Sock Collection

Jim Donovan, the recently-retired CBS Philadelphia anchor, ended his career on a high note after entering into the Guinness World Records for his sock collection.

Jim Donovan, the beloved former longtime CBS Philadelphia anchor, recently ended his career on a high note after making it into the Guinness Book of World Records for his sock collection, writes Joe Brandt for CBS News Philadelphia.

On December 19, Donovan appeared in his final broadcast, marking the end of almost 40 years in the news, including more than 20 years at CBS Philadelphia. During the show, he expressed gratitude to the station’s devoted viewers who helped him fulfill his Guinness World Record ambition.

About eight years ago, viewers began noticing Donovan’s colorful socks and started sending him more, sometimes several pairs a week. He began posting Instagram photos of the pair he was wearing that day, tagging them with #JimSocks.

With his sock collection continuing to grow, Donovan set his sights on a Guinness World Record. He cataloged every pair at the Great Hall at CBS Philadelphia, ultimately ending up with a final count of 1,531 unique socks.

“We’ve now heard back and it’s official, I now hold the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest sock collection,” said Donovan during his final broadcast.

He added that the record belongs to his viewers as much as it does him.
