Ursinus College has officially launched its Bloomberg Lab, bringing Wall Street to students’ fingertips. The new resource allows students to study the stock market in real time and earn finance certifications.
The lab features 12 state-of-the-art Bloomberg terminals, interactive workstations that allow students to receive and analyze live financial data. Located on the lower level of Myrin Library, the space has been transformed into a trading-floor-style environment, complete with a scrolling stock ticker.
“The new Bloomberg Lab underscores our commitment to APEX and represents a significant step forward in integrating real-time data analysis into the student experience. It is an exciting enhancement in our ability to prepare students for a data-driven world,” said Interim President Gundolf Graml, Ph.D.
The lab is the culmination of an idea started by beloved late professor Scott Deacle, who was instrumental in bringing a finance major to the college. He imagined a trading floor on the Ursinus campus, where students could get both real-world training and certifications.
The Bloomberg Lab isn’t limited to finance majors. In true Ursinus fashion, the Bloomberg Lab is a multidisciplinary resource open to students across all programs, offering access to three Bloomberg certification tracks. The courses introduce users to financial markets, career pathways, and sustainable investing principles.
“Employers recognize Bloomberg proficiency as a sign of professional readiness,” said Professor of Business and Economics and Department Chair Jennifer VanGilder, Ph.D. “The combination of the liberal arts approach and the Bloomberg lab capabilities will give our students a competitive edge for internships and jobs.”
