Doylestown Mill-Turned-Home Heads to Auction After Two Years on the Market

Shelly Mill, a former Doylestown mill now an expansive private residence, is going to auction two years after first hitting the market.

Shelly Mill, once an active Doylestown mill now restored into an expansive private residence, is set to go to auction two years after it first hit the market, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 9,500-square-foot property was initially listed in September 2023 for just under $4 million, but this has since dropped to about $3.2 million despite the strength of Doylestown’s luxury housing market.

Online bidding, handled by Concierge Auctions, will take place from Nov. 5 through Nov. 19, with starting bids expected between $1 million and $2 million.

Owners and real estate agents can choose to auction a high-priced home that has lingered on the market as a way to reach a wider, often international audience and generate renewed interest in the property.

“Sometimes you want to go to the auction to exploit the value of the property beyond the local market,” said listing agent Jay Spaziano of Jay Spaziano Real Estate.

Built in the 1770s, Shelly Mill has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, along with a 20-by-40-foot pool, a detached pottery studio, a summer kitchen, as well as a four-car garage.
