Countywide Election Glitch Addressed During Public Meeting

Chester County Commissioners discussed the election glitch that left nearly 20 percent of registered voters missing from the poll books.

During a public meeting last week, Chester County Commissioners discussed the countywide election glitch that ended up with nearly 20 percent of registered voters missing from the poll books, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News

“Wounds are still fresh,” said Commissioner Josh Maxwell. “It’s gonna take us some time to analyze, investigate, learn about what clearly happened yesterday, which was a mistake.”

The county discovered soon after people started arriving to vote on Nov. 4 that 75,076 registered third-party voters, including Independents, Libertarians, and those registered as “No Affiliation” and “Non-Parisian,” were not in the poll books.

Residents left voicemails and posted comments on Facebook, demanding that staff be disciplined.

He added that the county will look into the issue as soon as it is possible.

“We need to finish the election first and make sure every ballot is counted,” he said.

County park rangers delivered poll books containing third-party voters by 3:45 PM on Election Day, prompting an extension of the voting hours from 8 PM to 10 PM.
