St. Luke’s Upper Bucks County Campus Opens Expanded ER in Quakertown

St. Luke’s holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its upgraded ER at its Upper Bucks County campus.

St. Luke’s Hospital recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its significantly expanded ER at its Upper Bucks County campus, writes Josh Popichak for Saucon Source.

The campus has grown substantially since it was first opened six years ago. In 2024, ground was broken on the project to expand the emergency department to better serve the community. The upgraded ER, which officially opened on Thursday, will allow St. Luke’s to treat up to 40,000 patients a year.

The $8 million, 11,000-square-foot expansion increased the number of patient treatment bays from 16 to 28. It was built with the help of $2.5 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funds.

When it opened, the hospital had 40 beds and could see 22,000 patients in the ER per year. Two years ago, St. Luke’s added a three-story tower spanning 118,000 square feet on the west side of the original hospital, introducing cancer services and expanding obstetrics, birthing and neonatal intensive care units. Bed capacity increased to 93.

“We are growing our ER capacity in response to our patients, who tell us they are pleased with the quality of care they receive here,” said Dennis Pfleiger, President of St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus.
