The pen is mightier than the sword, especially for children seeking an opportunity to express themselves through storytelling and creative writing.
Kiddie Authors Organization is a nonprofit dedicated to helping children discover and empower their inner author.
Through free workshops and activities, children between the ages of 7 and 12 develop their writing skills while strengthening their creativity.
The organization was founded by Sabrina Dukhon, a current healthcare administration student at Arcadia University.
When Dukhon was attending Council Rock High School South, she had the opportunity to volunteer at a local elementary school to help fourth graders write stories.
“I saw a few of the children’s eyes sparkle like they’ve discovered a passion. It brought me back to when I, as a fourth grader, understood my passion for writing,” she said.
This opportunity sparked an idea for a program where kids could foster their writing skills. Two years later, Dukhon was finally able to host her first event in July 2025 at the Free Library of Northampton Township.
Each event surrounds a different theme and consists of a lesson, an activity and a game. In one of their recent sessions, she instructed the kids to write a story and then encouraged them to rewrite it using synonyms.
Since her first event, Dukhon has continued to partner with local Bucks County public libraries to host these sessions.
Dukhon works hard behind the scenes, managing marketing and organizing events, with the assistance of her sister and an intern at her university.
The support she’s received thus far from the community has been instrumental in helping raise awareness about the organization.
“Parents are extremely kind and supportive! I have been able to connect with many parents about the nonprofit. Librarians love it because the events bring awareness to public libraries, helping people utilize library events!”
Dukhon’s excited to continue to grow the nonprofit, hosting more events to help provide children with opportunities to express their creativity.
“Creativity is a superpower. Creativity connects with critical thinking. Besides blossoming into writers, kids can have an outlet where it is just their brains connecting with a paper,” she said.
Dukhon is currently seeking out volunteers who would like to assist with the organization. Teenagers interested in volunteering can get Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) hours through the Council Rock School District.
Kiddie Authors Organization’s next event is a Halloween Spooky Stories session on Oct. 25 at 2 PM in the Southampton Free Library, and kids who show up in costume will win a prize!
Attendees will have the chance to learn about the history of monsters and ghosts before writing some scary stories and playing a fun game.
Parents who are interested can keep track of Kiddie Authors Organization’s upcoming events on their Facebook page.
