The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will be moving from its headquarters of more than a half-century early next year, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Archdiocese just recently signed a new long-term lease for 80,000 square feet at the Three Parkway building in Philadelphia.
The new location is just a block away from its current 13-story headquarters in Logan Square, having owned and used the building since it was built in 1971.
However, with an estimated $25 million in deferred maintenance on the building, the Archdiocese has decided to relocate its operations to leased space.
“We’d rather spend funds on the mission of the church opposed to maintain the building,” said Archdiocese of Philadelphia spokesperson Ken Gavin. “Financially this will make sense for the archdiocese. It will be a cost savings.”
When it moves to the Three Parkway building in spring 2026, the Archdiocese will take the 10th, 11th, and 12th floors of the building.
As a result of the move, it will also be reducing its space by 42 percent, which coincides with its workforce. At its peak over a decade ago, there was about 450 employees. Now, there are about 250.
