Philly’s Mo’ne Davis Returns to Ballpark for Women’s Professional Baseball League Tryouts

Mo’ne Davis came onto the scene in 2014 during the Little League World Series and while she stopped playing baseball for a while, she's back.

Mone Davis recently made her return to the diamond during the first day of tryouts for the soon-to-launch Women’s Professional Baseball League, writes CBS News Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia native first burst onto the scene in 2014. At 13 years old, she became the first girl to pitch a shutout win in the Little League World Series.

Her performance over a decade ago turned Davis into a household name, and led to her being on the cover of Sports Illustrated and winning an ESPY.

After a years-long hiatus from the sport, Davis felt the urge to return.

The tryouts at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy provides her that opportunity.

The WPBL, which is set to launch in May 2026, will be the first U.S. pro league for women since 1954. It will aim to offer a path for women’s baseball players to pursue a professional career after aging out of youth competition, which has often not been an option.

For Davis, she now has an opportunity to build on her previous success and create a new path forward.

“Ultimately, I always figured I would always come back to baseball, somehow,” Davis said. “I didn’t think I would be playing, though.”

She can also play baseball alongside other women for the first time.
