“The Turnaround,” a documentary about Philadelphia Phillies shortshop Trea Turner’s 2023 standing ovation that helped turned his season around has won an Emmy Award, writes Dan Gelston for AP News.
Having already won a World Series championship and an NL battling title, Turner has another honor to add to his arsenal.
Turner was able to hoist the Emmy Award ahead of the Phillies’ recent game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
“The Turnaround” won the award for best sports short documentary.
Produced by sports documentary producer Kyle Thrash, the documentary follows Phillies fan Jon McCann, whose personal challenges and friendship with Turner serve as the premise of it.
Both were in attendance at the recent game to show Turner the trophy.
“Cuz, we did it, huh?! “McCann said to Turner’s after batting practice last Friday. “Trea Turner, we share an Emmy together.”
In 2023, during the first year of Turner’s 11-year, $300 million contract, he endured a long slump where he was batting just .238 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs.
However, Phillies fans like Thrash and many others maintained their support as he eventually turned things around.
