FOX 29’s Mike Jerrick Discovers Skin Cancer During Live TV Segment with Penn Dermatologist

Mike Jerrick learned of a cancerous spot on his right elbow during a live on-air skin care segment with a dermatologist from Penn.

Mike Jerrick, co-host of Good Day Philadelphia on FOX 29, was recently diagnosed with skin cancer during a live broadcast of the morning show, writes Melissa Rudy for Fox News.

Dr. Joanna Walker, a dermatologist with the University of Pennsylvania’s Tara Miller Melanoma Center, was taking part in a skin care segment when it all went down.

While highlighting the importance of checking signs of cancer, Dr. Walker found a spot on Jerrick’s right elbow.

The spot was basal cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer that affects about 3.6 million Americans yearly, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

According to Walker, this type of cancer is very treatment as long as it is caught early.

While this type of skin cancer doesn’t often spread elsewhere in the body, Walker advised that Jerrick “remove it so it doesn’t keep growing and take over normal skin.”

While Jerrick told Fox News Digital his diagnosis was a complete surprise to him, he added that he didn’t get alarmed.

“It was just like, ‘Oh dang, I should have done this a long time ago,’” said Jerrick.

He has since had his cancerous spot removed and expects to be just fine.
