Elwyn’s future school will be the “crown Jewel” of the nonprofit’s 260-acre Media campus, says Charlie Houder, principal of Haverford Development Partners.
Houder was describing the new $47 million school project on April 8 to members of the Middletown Township Planning Commission, writes Paul Schwedelson for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The school is a dual project of Elwyn and Villanova-based Haverford Development Partners.
“I view an investment in facilities as an investment in people,” Elwyn CEO Charles McLister said in describing Elwyn’s reimagined campus.
New facilities mean employees are better able to do their jobs with the resources they need, while families are proud their loved ones are receiving services, McLister said.
Construction of the school is expected to start in January, with completion by summer 2027.
Elwyn provides education, treatment, and support services for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and related behavioral health challenges.
The new school will operate with two curriculum tracks. One will focus on students with complex behavioral needs who are part of Elwyn’s residential program, and the other will teach more independent students who may live on their own.
Elwyn has about 400 students annually.
