One of the few things just about every Philadelphian can agree on is that the city has a pothole problem, but some neighborhoods are in significantly worse shape than others, write Henry Savage and Lizzie Mulvey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
From May 9, 2024, to May 9, 2025, Philly311, the city’s service system, received almost 6,000 pothole reports. On average, the response time was around 15 days. However, marking a request as “closed” did not always mean that the pothole got properly repaired or even fixed at all.
The city resolved 4,041 of those requests, according to officials, which leaves around a third of reported potholes still open.
Center City leads the pack in reported potholes, with 358 submissions. The neighborhood received a relatively fast response, with around nine days required to close a report. Following close behind is Kensington with 328 reports and North Philadelphia East with 264.
Northern Liberties and Fishtown is next with 183 reported potholes. North Philadelphia West follows close behind with 181, followed by South Philadelphia West at 179.
Neighborhoods with the fewest potholes include Bridesburg with 55, Kingsessing with 56, and Grays Ferry with 59 reported potholes.
