A major housing proposal is in motion in Lansdale, where a local developer is eyeing a transformation of industrial land into a new residential community, writes Dan Sokil for The Reporter.
W.B. Homes has unveiled plans for a 73-townhome development along the 800 block of West Fifth Street, a five-acre site currently home to Architectural Steel and a neighboring storage facility. The parcel—located near Valley Forge Road—is currently zoned industrial, but Lansdale Borough Council’s code committee voted to advance a zoning change that would allow the residential project to move forward.
Committee chair Rafia Razzak suggested the development would fit right in. “It’s surrounded by an all-residential area, which would look nicer if they come in with that land development,” she said.
If the rezoning is approved by full council, a public hearing is expected in June.
The proposed community would feature private roads and belong to a homeowners association. Concerns raised so far include safe pedestrian access for children attending nearby Oak Park Elementary School and ensuring emergency vehicles can navigate the roads.
W.B. Homes is no stranger to Lansdale. Its past projects include Cannon Square, Williamson Square, and Cannon II—all townhome communities that have helped shape the borough’s evolving landscape.
