For over a decade, the City of Philadelphia has put forth a plan to revitalize the Lower Schuylkill area of Philadelphia, which has long served as a critical economic vessel for the city.
The goal has been to transform the area into a vibrant, more modern industrial campus with diverse businesses and opportunities for work.
It was for that reason that the Lower Schuylkill Innovation District was established, writes PIDC.
The Innovation District is anchored by the Pennovation Works campus, which was developed by the University of Pennsylvania as a hub for collaboration and innovation.
With its location in University City, the Lower Schuylkill Innovation Campus (LSIC) has close proximity to the Schuylkill, as well as a number of research institutions and biotech firms.
“It remains a cornerstone of PIDC’s vision for inclusive growth and innovation in Philadelphia,” PIDC writes.
Over the years, several strides have been made to prepare the campus for future use. The goal is to improve accessibility and connectivity with local neighborhoods.
Another desire is to provide quality and accessible jobs and workforce training.
